So I did a thing. I left my family for the first time since it became a family! I didn't realize it until this trip but Ive never been away from Brandon and the girls at the same time. Anytime I've taken a trip the girls stayed with Brandon's mom and he and I were together or I'd take one with me and the other would stay with him... So WEIRD, and so bittersweet to be away from them! But... moving on! I had the best time with my friends this weekend! Friendships that last a lifetime are so incredibly valuable and, I believe, vital to our happiness. These girls have been my friends for more than a decade and I'm so thankful for them.
Saide's wedding is this Saturday so we took the weekend to relax and spend some quality time together. Each of us has super busy lives and we rarely get time together without distractions. We all said this needs to be an annual trip. I'm sure the husbands will be thrilled!
We stayed in Covington on the Northshore because it's a little calmer and quiter. Gemma was born there so Saide and I were already pretty familiar with the area. The Mandeville lakefront is always wonderful and there are some amazing restaurants there! Liz's Where Ya At Diner has the BEST biscuits and gravy. New Orleans is only a 30-40 minute drive over the causeway. We parked outside the quarter and got an uber to drop us in Jackson Square. Rain was forecast all day but God blessed us with the most gorgeous sunny, breezy, 65 degree day!
As always the musicians in Jackson Square and all over the quarter are so talented... There was one group that had a crowd of hundreds around them and the music was so good. I'm a sucker for these things because music brings people together which is one of my favorite parts of worship at church. I was watching and enjoying the music and just thinking about all of the people around me and feeling so strongly a confirmation that God's called me to reach for the lost. Slowly, he's teaching me compassion for a different kind of person and I'm so thankful for his faithful instruction.
We had dinner + cheesecake + cappuccino at Copeland's! All the girls got some kind of cajun food and I got Chicken Alfredo. We all cleaned our plates. So. Good. On our last day we drove down the lakefront and stopped for Beignets at Cafe Du Monde.
We can't wait to see Saide walk down the aisle and marry her guy this weekend! What great things God does in us!
I love you Saide!
XOXO
