Lighthouses

I took some photos of the girls today and while I was snapping I was really overwhelmed with the thought of all of the people who have made me who I am. I'm sure everyone has someone they consider a guide, a mentor, an unfailing and relentless listener and advice sharer... We have a lot of those and so I just want to talk about how vital that role is for a minute. 10 years ago I was as young and impressionable as any other teenage girl. I was going through some things, I was feeling lost... and I had a lighthouse. I had a few but one sticks out in my mind. I won't share because I know she wouldn't like being called out but I'll say she was the only reason I was able to avoid the rocky shore I was headed for. The funny thing is, she was struggling herself, greatly struggling to keep her own head above water and yet she carried me through some of the darkest days...

Later in life and many more times along the way I faltered and struggled not only to survive but to thrive in my environment, in new relationships, jobs and experiences... somehow there was always a lighthouse.

Fast forward a decade and I now have two daughters who will have their own struggles, short comings, failures... and already their lives are filled with lighthouses and I'm so so so grateful. We are blessed by you and grateful for you! Your influence is felt in the way I parent them and the way they show love daily... I am eternally grateful for you guys!

XOXO
