I think throughout this pregnancy I really tried to avoid thinking about having four kids in our house. Especially two very young and needy ones, but I'm happy to say that our house actually functions very well for our current situation. If for no other reason than I can almost always see Gemma and Rue at the same time! Having a toddler and a newborn is no freaking joke. Thank you to all the momma's who repeatedly told me to remember to relax in these first days.
Brandon is, as usual, my hero. He's literally policing EVERY move I make. The most aggravating part of c-section recovery is the irony of all the work that needs to be done for your babies and the inability to do it. I'm such a lucky girl to have the husband I do. I'm actually feeling great! Breastfeeding is going great and Rue sleeps like a little champ! (knock on all the wood!) Of course there are times when I'm feeling a little too great and take it a little too far and totally end up paying for it.
The big kids are head over heels for her and I swear it's the sweetest most fulfilling thing to witness. They had a countdown going before Rue was born and now they are counting how many days old she is on the chalkboard by our front door. So sweet... Gemma is struggling quite a bit with sharing the attention and my always-busy-with-a-baby hands... She's crying over things she never would have noticed before and it totally breaks my heart. Last night she sat down on the bed beside me and someone reminded her yet again that she can't climb on my tummy and she just looked plain sad. She looked at me and said "Momma, you were gone all the days..." She cried. I cried. It was a mess. Despite all that she loves Rue, a lot! She's so gentle and easy with her and is always asking me to pump so she can give her a bottle. I'm hoping over the next few days and weeks we learn to adjust!
About a week before we had Rue I was in major (borderline psycho) nesting mode and was determined to clean the entire house myself so naturally Brandon locked me in the bathroom. It was hilarious. The kids thought it was the funniest thing in the world there was literally furniture stacked in front of the bathroom doorway. He and the kids cleaned the house and I was only allowed to clean the bathroom which worked out just fine for all of us. So now, I'm receiving constant threats to behave and sit down or I'll get locked in the bathroom again.
I'm just reminded love is funny, and it comes to you in such funny ways and I'm so incredibly lucky.
Who does Rue look like to you?
XOXO
Miranda
