My first c-section was elective. People really don't like that I made that choice and trust me I heard about it frequently... But I had my reasons and they were significant enough to me. I don't now and didn't then feel the need to share or explain them to people. So I opted for a c-section again this time and I'm really really glad I did! Although I've heard so many great VBAC birth stories, my doctor doesn't do them.
I was really expecting the recovery from a repeat c-section to be somewhat hellacious. Turns out I was totally wrong! This time has been even easier than the first. I've had no incision pain, unless of course I sneezed or coughed or was laughing at my hilarious husband. I had a longer recovery time in the hospital and I think the extra day really made all the difference. Throughout the whole experience I've had almost no pain. Including the surgery prep up until now... The most painful part of it all has been the gas pain in my shoulders which was admittedly killer.
I'm three weeks out from surgery and feeling totally normal, I'd really love to start exercising again but I'm going to wait until my six week appointment. The last thing I want to do is throw a wrench in my perfect recovery plan!
As far as a "cesarean birth experience" I wouldn't change a thing. I got to see Rue immediately and hold her almost immediately and we got to start nursing about 25 minutes after birth which is ideal. Brandon and I had plenty of time alone with her and the nurses were so sweet and helpful. We got to see her first bath and she was with us in the room for the entire hospital stay. I can't recommend Memorial Herman The Woodlands enough and also my day nurse Beth who was incredibly kind and thoughtful.
Xoxo
