A Momma's Guide To The Texas Heat

I don't know about y'all but after Christmas is over I spend all of my time wishing winter was over too... I used to love the cold... until I had a kid. It's just difficult and that's probably hilarious given our very mild Texas winters... Here is how we make it through the summer with little ones!

So cheap and so effective. Before we had this I had to get the car cooled down before I could put Gemma in her convertible seat, not too bad but also completely inconvenient. This thing works, it keeps the buckle burns away and gives me peace of mind. Done deal. Now if only I could remember  to put it over her seat every time...

2. Insulated Water Bottle for Each Kid
We had these last summer and loved them. For play time outside, the pool, the zoo... everything. Staying hydrated is so important in severe heat especially for little ones who don't realize they've been playing nonstop for hours and hours.

3. Sunscreen Stick & Spray
Jude & Jaden hate sunscreen on their faces, like WILL NOT ALLOW IT. My sister gave me one of these sunscreen sticks and it was a total game changer. They can apply it themselves and it's not obnoxious smelling. It also helps for little ones who don't want to be sprayed... This brand is easy on the skin and lasts more than five minutes in the pool.

4. Plan Carefully
Going out in the middle of the day when you don't really need to can turn into a catastrophe pretty quickly. I swear nothing nose dives faster than the moods of children who are overheating in the car. I try to keep errands during the day to a minimum. We use the middle of the day for board games, nap time or reading and even sometimes a movie. It's just not worth the chance of a heatstroke...

5. Lots Of Water Play
Even if there are days that we can't make it to the pool there is almost always a sprinkler or water hose nearby and there are some great splash pads semi-close to us. We eat tons of popsicles too!

That's it! That's all I've got! If you've got some tips please share!

P.S. Here are some photos from last summer! Can't wait for the sunshine, the big kids and a new baby sister to get here!
