Hello there! Welcome to 5th &
Phillips! I’m so happy you’re here! I’m Miranda Phillips! Wife, Momma, Aspiring
Blogger and Holiday Fanatic. (excuse the shameless selfie!)
My object in starting this blog is
to create a space for you lovely ladies to come for your afternoon (and by afternoon,
I mean nap-time) refreshment and recharging! I love to write about my home, my
three babes and navigating the tricky waters of womanhood and motherhood. Every
so often I enjoy talking about the weightier topics of life. Things like
marriage, parenting and so on…
So let me tell you a little bit
about my family and myself! I am a native Texan but I will always call south
Louisiana home. I grew up in Texas and graduated high school there. My husband
and I split our time between Houston and New Orleans. We moved to the New
Orleans area about a year before we got married. We picked a small town outside
the city on a whim and fell in love with it. We spend a lot of time going back
and forth but this is ultimately where we want to end up.
As you probably guessed my husband,
Brandon works in the oilfield, as I’m sure a lot of your husbands do too! The
situation with that has been quite stressful for us lately but we are hopeful
that we will get through it all right. He is such a trooper and really the glue
that holds us all together in times of trouble. He is my best friend and I am
so grateful for the life and the children he has blessed me with. He's also a bit of a weirdo, and I love that about him. Here he is in his happy place :)
We have three kids, Jude age 10,
Jaden age 8 and Gemma age 2! Jude and Jaden are my stepchildren so they spend
part of the year in Arkansas and part of the year with us splitting that time
between LA and TX. They are citizens of the world! Brandon was in the Army when
they were born so one is from Oklahoma and the other is from Mississippi! You
can imagine how they feel about traveling. Gemma was born June of 2013. She has
her father’s outgoing personality like her big sister Jaden, while Jude is the
more thoughtful reserved one of the bunch.
We are also host to quite a zoo! We
have a rescued Black Cap Capuchin named Kai, A flop eared rabbit called Eden
and a sweet Boston terrier named Daisy. We get lots of questions about how we
have a monkey, is it legal, what about our kids and so forth. I’m sure
throughout my blog posts some of those questions will be answered for you.
We live in a tiny house built by my
husband and myself. It is the loveliest home we’ve ever had. So much time and
effort was put into making it our dream home and that is exactly what it has
become. It is 904 sq. ft., which technically disqualifies it as a tiny house as
those have to be 400 sq. ft. or less but we consider it to be tiny as it houses
5 people and three pets. We have always been intrigued by the tiny house
movement so last fall we decided to pack up and move out of our 2500 sq. ft.
subdivision home and build a tiny house in the country!
My goal is to reach out to the
wonderful and empowering women around me and share a little bit of inspiration
and joy. If at anytime you have feedback I would LOVE to hear it. You can reach
me by email at fifthandphillips@gmail.com
P.S. In time it will become increasingly obvious that we are not one of "those" families. Our hair is not always in place. The kids sometimes wear stained clothes. The background of our photo's contain real live messes! (the scandal!) So you know we are riddled with imperfections. We're pretty proud of that and we hope you are too.
Happy Reading!
XOXO
Miranda
